Each of us as individuals has our own specific learning styles and personality traits. It is important for us to understand how we learn and what our personality traits are so that we can put ourselves in a position to get the most out of our work. To assist in discovering how you learn, Howard Gardner, Harvard University professor, created the theory of Multiple Intelligences. One tool to use to discover how you learn is the Multiple Pathways to Learning tool. To assess your personality you can use the Personality Spectrum created by Myers—Briggs.

As I completed the Multiple Pathways to Learning tool I discovered that my three learning styles are Bodily-Kinesthetic, Visaul-Spatial, and Interpersonal. The style of Bodily-Kinesthetic suggests that I like to move and recite what I am learning and move fingers under works while I read. To maximize my Visual-Spatial learning style it is a good idea for me to develop graphic organizers for new material and use color in notes to organize my data. My last learning style is the Interpersonal style. To take advantage of this style as one of my strengths it is important for me to interact with others as I learn to discuss the information we are studying and to use flash cards to help me retain data.

The next step in discovering my personality types was to complete the Personality Spectrum. The results of the Personality Spectrum showed that my top three personality types were Organizer, Adventurer, and Giver. As an Organizer it is best for me to make sure that I have tasks defined in clear, concrete terms to understand that I know what is required of me. Also, as an organizer it is important for me to request feedback and use a planner (I use my iphone calendar) to schedule tasks and dates in advance.
