Explanation of the ITU Definition of an NGN

Most fixed network operators are currently introducing or considering the introduction of next-generation networks (NGN) as a way of upgrading and enhancing or replacing their PSTN and other service platforms. The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has produced an agreed definition of the term NGN (http://www.itu.int/ITUT/ngn/definition.html), which forms the framework for the many technical design and standards bodies currently involved in the subject. Assignment: You are required to prepare a report which, using your own words, presents your understanding of the background and meaning of the simple statements in the ITU definition. The report should be styled as a briefing document which could be used with senior managers in the Telcos., equipment manufacturers, regulators, and other service providers (ISPs, MVNOs., etc) . Specifically, the report (comprising some 12 to15 pages, including full use of diagrams and charts) should address each statement in the ITU definition.
