1. Explain the Captain/Dispatcher joint responsibility.
* Jointly responsible for preflight planning. Determine the suitability of weather, field, traffic, and airway facilities.

2. When is an alternate required?

c. Off line charter: Must be operated as Supplemental; thus the alternate. Vol 1 40.10-1
d. RNAV only airport: Must have alternate with suitable non-RNAV app avail. Vol 1 20.20-3
e. Marginal WX: Ceiling within 100’ or vis within ½ SM of mins. When wx forecast at destination, based on CAT 1 mins, and the first alternate, based on derived alternate mins, must have an additional alternate. Vol 1 20.20-3
f. International One Runway: Frontier requirement. Vol 1 35.20-1
g. Flag ops over 6 hours: Only required when ceiling and vis forecasts fall below mins. Vol 1 35.20-1.
h. Exemption 3585: See Vol 1 20.20-4. Only authorized on Domestic flights.
i. Takeoff Alternate: WX conditions at departure airport below Cat 1 landing mins. Max time of 1+00 (norm cruise speed, single engine, still air) and 330 nm. Vol 1 20.40-3
3. Explain Flaps optimized between 3 and 4.
* Commonly associated with enroute icing where the possibility exists that the aircraft with experience ice accumulation that will the approach climb limit weight and requires a Flaps 3 configuration.
