Iam a member of the African American ethic group. African Amrican have suffer oppression for many years. African Americans, did they colonize or immigrate to the United States? Going by the definitions given by several different references, it is kind of difficult to determine if Africans immigrated or colonized over into the United States since they were not given a choice in the situation. African American were treated as second class citizens and many of them have never had a chance to experience a better life. Many African American died fighting for the rights we as African Americans have today. We have the right to vote, receive an equal education as whites, and we are even allowed to sit in the front seat of public transportation. These things today we do so freely were a major challenge to our ancestors before us. Early African Americans came to United States for different reasons. Some were captured in Africa and sold by slave traders in the U.S. Many others migrated from other countries for a better life and freedom. But in the early stages of Dual labor market African Americans were not given any meaningful job with any kind of pay structure or benefits. While coming to America, African Americans faced prejudice, segregation and racism. Color of their skin caused them to be treated diffrntly.
