Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder; Plato coined this phrase a long time ago. Not many people know where the phrase came from, who was the first to state it, but everyone using the phrase. Does society truly understand the meaning of the phrase is a better question? Although commonly used it the quote its acceptance is not as commonly, as society has set its standards for what how beauty is defined. Society has decided over the years that it has a right in all matter of beauty no matter whom or what thinks something is beautiful. How many women fit within these parameters? So are the remaining women not beautiful or is society just being too critical? This issue of beauty is not just for women although much tougher on woman but men also have a beauty profile. Society has given us it definition of the beautiful man, often referred to as sexy due to men not liking the adjective beautiful as a description. When used in reference to a man, it was meant as a form of mockery, a connotation that affects our usage of the word even today.
