INTRODUCTION

General Motors Company, has, still is and will always be one of the founding fathers in the automotive industry towards innovation and technological advances. Being one of the more well-known automotive companies in the industry, General Motors (GM) has a rich heritage dating back to the early 1900’s. To date GM produces or has produced approximately more than one-third of the world’s automobiles. “General Motors Company (GM or “the company”) is primarily engaged in the development, production and marketing of cars, trucks and automobile parts. The company also provides automotive financing services. The company primarily operates in North America, and Europe”( MarketLine. 2012).

Just as General Motors motto claims: “Chevy Runs Deep”, which it truly does. General Motors have stood for comfort, quality, efficiency and affordability for over a century. With advances in technology towards efficiency, consumer/creature comforts, and practicality, GM has created the standards for the North American family automobile. As well as the introduction of hybrid sports utility vehicles, the newest production electric cars on the market, The Chevy Volt, and the 2014 Cadillac ELR with their new integrated, and touch responsive Cadillac ‘CUE’ (Cadillac User Experience), the ‘My Link’ experience featured in GM Chevrolet, GMC, and Buicks ‘INTELLILINK’ technology (Innovation: Design & Technology, n.d.). GM leads the way in innovations for today and the future. Based on this, it is the purpose of this report to outline and generalize General Motors overall company as a whole.

BACKGROUND

General Motors Company was developed in the early 1900’s, but the first vehicle that was produced by founding father R.E. Olds, was developed in the late 1800’s when he took his life savings and started building cars out of his fathers shop.
