1) What are hormones? Hormones are regulatory substances produced in an organism and transported in tissue fluids such as blood or sap to stimulate specific cells or tissues into action.

2) How are hormones transported? Hormones are transported through the bloodstream.

3) Why is the pituitary gland called the “Master” gland? The pituitary gland is called the master gland because it controls the function of most other endocrine glands.

4) What are the two segments of the pituitary? The anterior lobe and the posterior lobe are the two parts of the pituitary.

5) Where is the thyroid gland located? The thyroid gland sits low and at the front of the neck.

6) What are the symptoms of myxedema? Symptoms of myxedema include low temperature, difficulty breathing, loss of hair, swelling, deep mental changes and more.

7) Why is a rabbit shown on the slide of hyperthyroidism? As an example of how fast it produces.

8) How many parathyroid glands do we have? Four.

9) What does the pancreas have to do with the Endocrine system? The pancreas gland makes insulin which controls blood sugar and other organs that produce things such as hormones.

11) Where are the adrenal glands located? The adrenal glands are located at the top of each kidney.

12) What are the 3 types of hormones secreted by the adrenal cortex? Glucocorticoids, mineralocorticoids, androgens are the three types of hormones secreted by the adrenal cortex.

13) What is Cushing’s disease? Cushing syndrome is a disorder that occurs when your body is exposed to high levels of the hormone cortisol.

14) What hormones are secreted by the ovaries and testes? Estrogen and testosterone are hormones secreted by the ovaries and testes.
