Abstract

This paper will explain the code of ethics that the majority of professional organizations implement to providing their organizations with a system to guide them in the achievement of their job obligations, in circumstances that might be otherwise ethically wrong. Self-Assessment and The Ethics of codes Self Assessment can truly assist and label those areas that are based on strong ethical ground; areas that you may wish to consider examine the basis and opportunities for further reflection.

Decision making from Self-Assessment

When taking the Self Assessment on the ACHE website I learned a few things about myself when it comes to ethical decision-making and how I may potentially act in a given situation. One that really stood out was an example from the Leadership section of the online assessment and it was the survey statements, “I take courageous, consistent and appropriate management actions to overcome barriers to achieving my organization’s mission.” (ache.org) And from Colleague and staff section “I foster discussions about ethical concerns when they arise” (ache.org). I don’t realize the affect of the ethical conflict that will arise by those statements but I always try doing those statements with professionalism and with common courtesy. If there is any concerns I try bring them up to management or with a respectable party that can guide the team in the right ethical direction.

Professional ACHE standards of ethics

The ache.org of Ethical policy statement is to “present ACHE’s position on various ethical issues in healthcare and suggest a standard of behavior for healthcare executives facing these challenges” (ache.org). And the code of ethics purposes “is to serve as a standard of conduct for members. It contains standards of ethical behavior for healthcare executives in their professional relationships.
