Should Alex Rodriguez (A-Rod) be banned from major league baseball for the illegal use of anabolic steroids? Most baseball fans agree that he should in fact be banned from the sport for life. Others argue that his steroid use did not impact his play or damage the integrity of the sport. In all professional sports, steroids continue to be an ongoing problem with no clear solution or vision of its absence. Rodriguez is one of the highest paid players in major league baseball and one of the greatest to ever play the game. Should he be banned from baseball for steroid use even after he issued an apology and admitted to the use?
Anabolic steroids are drugs derived from the male hormone testosterone. Steroids are used by athletes to enhance muscle mass as well as to help repair damaged tissue while expediting recovery. There have been cases where medical professionals administer steroids to heal injuries related to sport. Like any other drugs and medications there are some side effects. Steroid users have mentioned they have experienced jaundice, baldness, acne, aggravated heart problems, infertility, and permanent liver damage. Women too have been said to experience and use anabolic steroids. Some side effects in women are similar, and also include development of a deep voice and increased body hair and baldness. The side effects differ from person to person along with the amount of time that steroids are utilized and the dose. Anabolic steroids to most are said to be morally wrong and are prohibited in majority of professional sports in America.
It is amazing what athletes will do to achieve higher levels of performance and to sometimes get the extra edge on the competition. Most of the time steroid users do not realize the long-term effects that result from the decisions they make early in life. Steroids became an option to athletes in the Olympics and other major sporting events...
