Write three well-developed paragraphs on the following:

1. What were the reasons the bomb should have been used on Japan?

The reasons the bomb should have been used on Japan was so Japan can surrender and the war can end. Japan failed to respond to the Potsdam Declaration which is why President Truman approved the use of atomic bomb on japan. Some people disagreed with President Truman’s discussion because they believed that Japan would surrender since it was already defeated. Despite some disagreement, Truman ordered the atomic bomb to be dropped. Even though japan was given two different chances to surrender, they didn’t. The U.S. bombed both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. After the bombing of those two places, Japan surrendered and the war ended.

2. What were the reasons the bomb should not have been used on Japan?

The atomic bomb should not have been used on Japan because it killed many people and caused lots of damage. The two bombs that were dropped on Japanese cities had more power than all of the Allied bombs dropped in Europe. The bomb in Hiroshima killed about 50,000 people immediately and destroyed much of the city. In Nagasaki, 40,000 people were killed by the bomb. Many people died later on from radiation sickness and related illness caused by the bomb. The effects of the atomic bomb lasted for decades.

3. Should the atomic bomb have been used on Japan? Why or why not? Support your claim with evidence from the lesson.

The atomic bomb should not have been used on Japan. Although it did get Japan to surrender and the war ended, it caused much damage. Many Japanizes citizens died from the bombing. Many others were injured or got sick. The atomic bomb destroyed much of the two cities. Even though bombing was required to end the war, the US could have dropped fire bombs which would have had a similar effect in terms of death tolls and destruction to the infrastructure, but would not have led to the after effects of an atomic...
