CHAPTER I:

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

1.1 INTRODUCTION

A Log Book of Sales and Offtake are vitally important for any Business that sells a Physical product. As it tells if a Company or Establishment is doing well or loosing a revenue. Thus, a stable tabulation is required. Since Manual Inventory consumes a lot of time and is susceptible to errors, it would be helpful to build a system that will automate the transactions from acquisition of the product. An automated Inventory System will improve employee’s work efficiency by automating routinely and time consuming task such as the time spent in taking down the product information. As a result the time consumed can be used in more productive activities and would eliminate the need of constantly encoding length details of products. However, this is only appropriate for small businesses who have limited supplies.

A Point-of-Sale (POS) on the other hand are/is used by medium to large businesses, As it monitors not only the sales offtake, it also keep track of customer’s order, stocks available and items that needs to be refilled. It uses a tills that enable product data to be read (usually from a bar code) so that information may be stored. This is used for stock replenishment. Making it easier to the employee to close a sale, give tab and handle other queries. On the on the other hand a Customer’s queuing time is lessen.

1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The problems encountered by Kelly 2 Hardware and Construction Supply while using a Manual System are the following:

* Sluggish process of receipt

* Inaccurate recording sales

* Takes time to monitor...
