1. What level of knowledge do high school coaches possess about exertional heat illness?

a. Low level!

2. Do high school coaches demonstrate sufficient knowledge to provide appropriate immediate care to their athletes?

a. If an 80% on the knowledge assessment is the standard, they do not demonstrate sufficient knowledge to provide appropriate care for their athletes.

Results

Seven high school coaches responded to the Heat Illness Knowledge Assessment (4 men, 3 women). Of the seven participants, five had attained a bachelor’s degree and two had attained a master’s degree. Table 2 describes other demographic data: age range, years of experience as a coach and head coach, years since last CPR and FA certification, and years since last heat illness course, if any.
