Gotham Bank

Introduction Kathleen O’Connor put the receiver of the phone back on its cradle. She looked out the window of her office on the 27th floor of the Gotham Bank corporate headquarters in Manhattan. The view was terrific! The weather was nice that day with sunshine and the first flowers of spring adding some much needed color after a dreary winter. Kathleen got up and started to pace as she always did when he wanted to think. She had just received a call from Jim Darden, the COO, confirming what had been planned for a long time. Gotham Bank had decided to separate their Corporate and Investment Banking operations. The CEO, Anthony D’Arco, had always considered Gotham Bank more of an investment bank than a corporate bank and now he was making this a reality. This was a good move on the part of Gotham Bank but it created a huge headache for Kathleen! Her team would need to carve up the IT applications and divide them between the two new independent businesses. A number of applications were shared by both divisions and some specialized applications were supported across divisions. The application that came to mind right away was the one for the trading operations, TradeDesk2100. TradeDesk2100 was developed by third party developers that were part of the corporate banking operation. TradeDesk2100 was the core application that provided market data, news and several other tools to its brokers. With the eventual split between Corporate and Investment banking Division, Kathleen realized that she would need to replace the legacy application quickly.
