Of the various jobs and skill sets discussed in Introduction to Institutions, the one job that appealed to me the most was financial manager. This job appealed to me because it allows the person to manage a business in its entirety and to still remain on the operational side of things. With this job the person is in charge of the businesses costs, projects, and everything in between.

This job requires at least a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and a sincere interest in finance. You must know for a fact that this is something that you want to do because the business runs on your decisions. If you are not serious about this job then you could potentially make mistakes that could hurt the business.

I would not say that is the career that I would pursue just because this job requires the individual to juggle so many different things. It seems like you a re running the business but the business does not have your name on it. Also, with this type of job it seems that you need to do some “selling” such as asking for business and working really close with others to find solutions to problems. Even though I am a people person I do not really care to work with people that closely. I like to give or receive commands and move on, not brainstorm.

There were no other careers that really appealed to be because even though they were involved in the financial world they did not do what I eventually want to do. I want to be in finance but I want to be more on the operational side of things such as audit banks. I want to look over documents and point out errors or improvements that a business needs to fix and move on.
