Solve a Problem

Effective problem-solving requires creative people willing to make the necessary commitment to break away from traditional patterns and try new directions. The problem solver must be curious enough about finding the best solution instead of limiting the ideas to the most common solution. Creative Process Stages

The ability to be creative lies within an open mind combined with curiosity to explore and produce new ideas. According to V.R. Ruggiero, there are four stages to the creative process of problem solving—searching for challenges, expressing the problem, investigation of the problem, and producing ideas to solve the problem (2009).

The first stage of searching for challenges involves recognizing an area where a problem exists and then to respond to any opportunities to improve, change, or solve the problem for a better outcome.

The second stage of expressing the problem involves analyzing the problem in different ways so that it produces different perspectives, thereby generating more helpful ideas.

The third stage of investigating the problem involves obtaining relevant information that will aid in resolving the problem. To accomplish this task one must reflect on their experiences or the experiences of others.

The fourth stage of producing ideas to solve the problem effectively involves generating enough different ideas that a decision is made regarding which direction to proceed (Ruggiero, 2009).
