Chapter 7 Recruiting in Labor Markets pg 192

Evaluating your recruitment choices, lets start of by defining recruitment. Recruitment refers to the process of attracting, screening, and selecting qualified people for a job at an organization or firm. For some components of the recruitment process, mid- and large-size organizations often retain professional recruiters or outsource some of the process to recruitment agencies.

Recruiting the correct employees for your company is often an expensive task. When recruiting you want to be certain you'll be getting the most from your hard work. The first and most obvious sign will be finding the right person for the available job. That said just because you found the right person the last time doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement for both now and the future. With careful attention and a some new skills you'll be able to reduce both time and cost, as well as increasing your 'strike rate' - that is finding the best talent for your company.

The most common forms to get the word out that your company is hiring is through advertisement. Advertising is a form of communication intended to persuade an audience (viewers, readers or listeners) to purchase or take some action upon products, ideals, or services.

Advertising could be done on:

Newspapers

Trade journals

Television and radio

Online posting

Websites

Evaluating your company needs is also important. A Company must evaluate the needs of the company when evaluate the recruits. Do they fit in with the company/motto. Quantity vs. quality should also be evaluated, does the company have the time to properly sort out applicants based on experience or skill level. Another thing that Companies need to evaluate is whether the recruit fits the image of there company. Payment is also important, does the company have enough funds, which can dictate the quality of the recruit.
