Forensic Psychology Skills: The Need for Resilience

Forensic Psychology is a fast growing career in this day and age. More and more people understand what the career entails and are opening up to its possibilities. As each person learns more about this field, they also learn about the skills and attributes one would need to be successful in it. A skill that is often overlooked but highly needed for a forensic psychologist is resilience. Resilience is a critical skill to possess as a forensic psychologist because many people in this field must deal with difficult situations on a daily basis. The ability to compose oneself efficiently and professionally when faced with the pressures of the job is looked at by many with great praise.
A job as a forensic psychologist is not all roses and daises. Forensic psychologists face a lot of pressure on an almost daily basis throughout their career. One of the duties the job could entail is being on trial and getting cross examined in a full courtroom. One could be questioned and challenged on the points they present to the courtroom. In an interview conducted by professionals from forensicpschology.net, a doctor H.D Kirkpatrick states that a forensic psychologist who is cross examined on stand must be able to take the pressure with ease and no faults (An Interview with H.D Kirkpatrick, 2014). You will be challenged on stand but you must be able to take the criticism with a strong character. A forensic psychologist might also find themselves face to face with a rather difficult offender during an interview. This offender can be violent and highly uncooperative towards the psychologist.
