Demonstrative Communication

The definition of communication is how we interact with each other by sending and receiving messages. It includes the interchanging of thoughts, messages, or information, by speech, writing, verbal or nonverbal. There are many types of verbal communication, which can include oral and written. Nonverbal communication includes facial expressions, body language, eye contact, gestures, amount of personal space, tone of voice, and touch.

Demonstrative communication can easily be explained as a way of sending out a message without uttering a word. Demonstrative communication involves nonverbal and unwritten communication. Sometimes this type of communication can be effective, also can be ineffective and can either be positive or negative, for both the sender and receiver, depending on the situation. According to (Burgoon 1994), it is estimated that nonverbal message including body language, and facial expressions account for two thirds of all communication.

Demonstrative communication between the sender and receiver is negative when there is a lack of eye contact between them, negative facial expressions such as frown or yawn, body language of crossing of the arms, lack of attention or not being focus. All kinds of expression occur on a daily basis in various environments. During weekly staff meeting with subordinates a Manager can detect if the group is attentive and receiving is message simply by watching their body language.

Nonverbal communication can be both positive and negative. Non-verbal message are sometimes sent in advance of verbal message. Some people that are good in body language and nonverbal communication can portray a difference message.
