As most people spend a major part of their adult life at work, job satisfaction is an important element of individual well being. What factors contribute to job satisfaction?

Recent international studies show that job satisfaction dynamics have been steadily decreasing in the past decade. According to Forbes magazine, surveys conducted worldwide by respectable research companies in 2012 reveal that 65% of employees are somewhat or totally dissatisfied with their jobs. Since most people spend the greatest part of their days at work, job satisfaction is tightly related to human pursuit of individual well being. Based on diverse online publications, this essay examines the major factors that affect employee job satisfaction dynamics such as, working conditions/workload and stress level, opportunities for advancement, relationships with supervisors/co-workers and financial rewards.

Firstly, working conditions have occupied a due place at the top of the list. This factor incorporates infrastructure, such as comfortable work station and appropriate technological tools to do the job effectively and efficiently. On the other hand, job satisfaction is very much influenced by proper delegation of workload and time, i.e. effective management practices. The above mentioned factors create the operational comfort for employees.

The evolution process has proven that human beings have an innate aspiration for progress and development. Consequently, opportunities for career growth have been logically placed among the major determinants of job satisfaction. Observations show that employees, who see strategic advancement opportunities ahead of them, tend to operate with greater motivation, dedication and zeal, stirred by greater progress and development prospects.
