Finding the Leader in You: Self-Assessment / Johari Window
John Schermerhorn says, “Perception is the process by which people select, organize, interpret, retrieve and respond to information from the world around them; it is a way of forming impressions about ourselves, other people, and daily life experiences” (2012). This perception could be influenced by how other people perceive the problem; their past experiences and the impression that other people have of us.
Schermerhorn claims that any perception process has to come along with information processing; this process involves 4 phase: attention and selection, organization, interpretation and retrieval (2012). This paper will work through these phases in order to process the information acquired after the self-assessment and it will also work by hand with the Johari Window Diagram in order to obtain the most accurate results and interpretation of the data.
Developing the Author's Personality.
A self-assessment is an evaluation of our own actions and attitudes to different situations that may occur in particular, the majority of this assessment are graded by numbers and each result has a different range of response. In order to respond these assessments correctly the author most focuses the attention in the upper left quadrant of the Johari Window Diagram that is called Open Area. The author most be willing to disclose her true personality providing personal information, thoughts, and being honest with her answers, it is also important to be open for feedback from coworkers or the persons that see you differently (Lowy & Hood, 2004).
