Out of many professional professions, accountant may be the only one that is the most talked and discussed about in many financial related publishing. And the one that is constantly changing. In the past, accountants are people hired to merely handle accounts. Today, in many small companies, accountants are people who are tasked with simple book keeping just like they were in the past. The auditing will be handled by accounting firms. In large corporations, accountants are required to handle many kind of financial related task such as tax reports preparation, and financial planning among others.

Accountant Employment Trends

Accountants in Malaysia are usually tasked with their original ‘purpose’ which is to handle accounts. That trend however, has recently changed along with the growth of the country’s economy and with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between IIRC and SASB, the number of companies, wanting to standardize their accounting standard in accordance with SASB’s guidelines too, has further grown. This is one of the factor on how and why the accounting profession changed tremendously (ACCA Accountancy Future: Critical Issues for Tomorrow’s Profession Edition 06 2013 Pg. 3).

In the future, the accounting profession will be a very different one compared to the one we have today. Seeing the changing world of accounting, ACCA the international body for professional accountants, formed a global forum that brought together, experts from both the public and private sectors from around the world to assist ACCA on their research on issues facing the accountancy profession.
