According to Mataruse and Mwatengahama (2001), the procedure in operant conditioning allows active participation by the organism in deciding what behaviours to engage in or to avoid. A human being operate upon her/his environment and observe the consequences of its operation. Naturally people have fear of failure, for instance when pupils write a test they will be afraid of failure. This problem can be rectified by giving the learner immediate feedback. The feedback will act as a motivational strategy because once a pupil is aware of his or her performance he/she is bound to work extremely hard to harness the achieved goals or to put more effort so as to attain his/her goal.

In a learning scenario, if the task is not broken down into small enough steps this can be an obstacle to effective learning. It is very important for the learner to break down the tasks into small steps to enable learners to learn at their own pace. This process can be accommodative to slow learners and as a result all learners will be motivated to learn. A teacher can give tasks to pupils according to their abilities, thus their ability. Challenging work can be given to gifted learners and less challenging work can be given to slow learners, this will enhance maximum learning and effective learning will be achieved.

Lack of direction can be a stabling block as far as education is concerned. The teacher should make an effort to repeat directions as many times as is possible. The Teacher can put charts on the walls so that pupils constantly refer to them when solving problems everyday. Revision exercises are also important as they reinforce the learning behavior. Revision exercise will help pupils to work hard so as to avoid failure and achieve their goals. The staff members at a school can have workshops for example on how a composition is written, latest marking schemes or to share updates on the latest developmental information that facilitates learning.
