Controlling Irrational Fears After 9/11

Betty Gladney

CRT 205

The first argument chose from this essay is how the author used, an example, it is unlikely Americans remember that earlier in 2001 an earthquake in Gujarat, India, approximately, 20,000 people were killed. The conclusion is that one might explain the difference in reactions by Americans that we naturally responds more strongly to deaths of Americans closer to home than those others that are halfway around the world. The premise of this argument supports the conclusion for this statement. I believe this argument is inductively strong and because the argument is strong it evokes emotions of patriotism.

The second argument in this essay is about the poly changes in national securities or homeland securities after terrorist attack on Sep 11 2001. This tragedy made all Americans afraid of their safety in flying an airplane and made all them feel miserable for their family and friends who had die on the day of the attack. It is important that U.S need to take measure to improved homeland securities to eliminate any possibilities from terrorist attack again. I believe premises supported the conclusion because the terrorists did strike fear in the hearts of Americans throughout the United States as proven by the reactions of the American people. But the government wasted time and money after the terrorists attacked. The government should have focused on more ways of protection versus sending the nation into sheer panic. I don’t think this premises support the conclusion and the changes that were made was disruptive or ineffective. It’s my belief this argument is weak there is no way to say if this conclusion is true or valid.
