Write a 100- to 200-word response to each of the following questions. Provide citations for all the sources you use.

* What is discrimination? How is discrimination different from prejudice and stereotyping? According to racial and ethnic groups, chapter three, discrimination is defined as “the denial of opportunities and equal rights to individuals and groups because of prejudice or for other arbitrary reasons”. What makes discrimination different than prejudice or stereotypes is that discrimination can come in many forms to individuals or groups. Someone can be discriminated towards by people and denied services and rights because of what they are stereotyped as or what prejudice is against them. Discrimination can be based on the color of skin, the age of a person, the religion, the political beliefs, their taste in music, and many, many more things. Discrimination can come in all forms, from anyone, towards anyone!

* What are the causes of discrimination? Discrimination can be caused by many things and come from anyone being directed towards anyone. One can be discriminated against because of their race. For example if a Latino woman was to go apply at a job where there were primarily white employees and the person in charge of hiring did not like darker skinned races the Latino woman might not be offered the job opposed to the white woman that interviewed an hour later. While the Latino woman may be more skilled and suited for the job than the white woman, discrimination against her race or skin tone could keep her from receiving the job.

* How is discrimination faced by one identity group (race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, gender, sexual orientation, age, or disability) the same as discrimination faced by another?
