Energy conservation is important not only to our community, but to the global environment as well. By using nonrenewable resources like natural gas, oil, and coal, harmful pollution is released into the air. These resources are also limited in their supply and at some point we will run out. However, if we move towards using renewable energy sources like wind, solar, and bio-fermentation we can reduce these greenhouse gases and save these limited resources. These renewable energy sources are without limit and save vast amounts of pollution being released into the air.

There are five easy ways that we can help conserve energy and reduce the amount of pollution that is released in to the environment. First we can all set our thermostats a few degrees warmer so the air conditioning is not used as often. In most homes the air conditioner uses more power than anything else and is usually over 50% of your energy bill each month. The second way we can conserve energy is by using low power light bulbs. While these light bulbs do cost more to purchase at first, they do last far longer than conventional light bulbs. Another advantage of using these bulbs is that they use far less power which in turns lowers your power bill. The third way would be to turn off your ceiling fans when you are not in the room. Ceiling fans cool people, not rooms. If there is no one in a room the ceiling fan does no good to anyone or anything. The forth way would be to shutdown or use the energy saving options for your computers when you are not going to be using them for awhile. The fifth way to reduce your energy usage would be to add solar power to your home. While it can be expensive to install it is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint.
