Schizophrenia is considered to be very severe disorders and a complex illness. The severe disorders in which there are disturbances of thoughts, communications, and emotions which also include delusions and hallucinations. People who are diagnosed with the mental disorder have a difficult time telling the difference between what is reality and what is not reality, unable to think logically and rationally, have normal emotional responses, or behave normally in social situations. There are multiple factors that can cause or trigger Schizophrenia. Some experts believe that the brain may not be able to process information correctly; genetic factors play a role, a person’s environment, and psychological and social factors.

The illness affects about 1% of people worldwide. Schizophrenia usually begins before the age of 45, symptoms last for 6 months or more, and people start to lose their ability to socialize and work. Schizophrenia appears to occur in equal rates among men and women, but in women it begins later. For this reason, males tend to account for more than half of patients in services with high numbers of young adults. Childhood-onset schizophrenia begins after the age of 5 and, in most cases, after normal development. Childhood schizophrenia is rare and can be difficult to tell apart from other developmental disorders of childhood such as autism (www.Googlehealth.com).

Other studies indicate there is a biological predisposition release of dopamine in the central nervous system, resulting to an excessive increase of the neurotransmitter in the focal and critical regions of the brain.

Other research suggests that the pathology in various structures plays an important in the onset of schizophrenia (van Elst & Trimble, 2003; Weinberger, 1997). For example, people with schizophrenia have been shown with enlarged ventricles where the chambers in the brain are filled with cerebrospinal fluid.
