Teenage Pregnancy

Abstract

Imagine the life of a seventeen year old female on the road to her senior year of high school. Excited for the senior class trip, anxious for senior prom, anticipating graduation and the hopes of going on to college and finally being in the real world, to suddenly discover during the fun care free summer, not only is she pregnant but the guy she thought loved her wants nothing to do with her. Teenage pregnancy is a societal trend involving adolescent an unprotected sex. This steady increase dictates a negative effect on our society and economy as a whole. Statistics show that most of these teen parents come from lower income families, and show hardships in their studies and personal life. This paper will provide some information on the history of teenage pregnancy as well as some of the prevention strategies as in better education and conception and lastly touching on suggestions we as a society could do help this population and our economy.

Introduction

Not only is she pregnant but the guy she thought loved her want nothing to do with her. Some teens get pregnant because they want to feel wanted and needed, or simply because everyone else around them have kids. However, every story is not the same, teenage pregnancy can have a lasting effect on these teen mothers if they are unaware and not understanding of the changes they will soon encounter. Teenage conceptions are statistically more likely to happen in the Christmas and summer holidays (Frances 2011).
