Kudler Fine Foods Brief

Kudler’s Fine Foods (KFF) wants to effectively integrate technology in the business operations. KFF is a business account of ABC Accounting. KFF asked ABC Accounting to complete a brief detailing how computer systems would be effectively integrated to meet the business needs and improve accounting procedures.

ABC discovered many issues with the current information system at KFF. The issues include ordering systems, Point-of-Sale (POS) networking, banking procedures, data integrity, and data security. The ordering is completed by Kathy, although there is a purchasing manager, inventory manager, and purchasing assistant that could help develop orders. The current POS system completes the job although it does not give the company what it is currently look for in a system. Banking procedures are costing the company extra money that could be used for other purposes. Data integrity, KFF is looking to compile customer data to help understand the business better and meet the individual needs of each customer. With all the improvements data security is a must. Networking can leave the business open for security issues if not dealt with before hand.

The current ordering system is not going to work as the business keeps growing and expanding (possibly to San Francisco). KFF currently uses purchase order forms. With a new ordering system orders could be placed via the internet or intranet depending on the product. Purchase order forms can be lost in the shuffle, using a program developed for this type of transaction is a must with the growth being seen by KFF. KFF can employ optical character recognition (OCR) to read UPC labels to count inventory on a weekly basis, thus making it quicker and more accurate. OCR can also give the stores a print out of low stock levels when used correctly. The POS system currently uses the UPC to inventory and dispense correct receipts to customers.
