The Riordan Operating System Upgrade project requires significant research. This project headed by the information technology (IT) group, is leading the initiative and has assigned team alpha as responder to any requests, and research requirements. The project team consists of three members and culminates on the due date of January 16, 2012. After completing the research, the IT team will present, and demonstrate justification, feasibility, and recommendations to move ahead with the requested server and network upgrades.
Provided in this document is the feasibility, justification, comparisons, contrasts, and final recommendations for Riordan’s operating systems and proposed server upgrade. The research and results, offer ideas for solutions affecting the company, and upon approval create a more efficient computing environment. Delivering reports at the conclusion of each week facilitates the method to determine progress toward the project goals. This offers checkpoints and steps throughout the process, allowing evaluation, and process correction if necessary. The final goal is determining, and selecting what operating system – if any - requires upgrading, and whether Windows 2000 server with Windows XP, or Vista provide a better environment, or Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP, or Vista create better advantages for the company.
Current Riordan Situation
Considering the scope of the project, understanding the current systems and reasoning behind an upgrade are paramount. Riordan Manufacturing has four sites.
