Organizational Theory

Technology greatly influences human affairs and organizations in general, leading to operational changes. There has been a rapid change on how organizations operate because of the influence of technology (Burnes, 2004). There are many perspectives in which these changes have been addressed, but the major ones are modernism and symbolic perspectives. This essay outlines perspectives of organization theory with modernism and symbolic perspectives being addressed among others which include division of labor, rational system, and classical perspectives. The perspectives of organization theorists are also examined to determine how the management process is expected to take place as it provides the framework for organization effectiveness and productivity (Burnes, 2004).

Modernism

Modernism is the movement in arts along with the cultural trends and changes. It arose in western society in late 19th and early 20thcenturies. It can be described as both progressive and optimistic changes which lead to development. Some of the factors that led to modernism include modern industrial societies and the increased rate at which the industries grew. Modernism arose when people felt that traditional forms of art, literature, architecture, or even religious faith had become outdated and needed to be changed. Industrialization is a major influence on modernism as it encouraged people to have self-consciousness. This led people to conduct experiments with form along with using means which lead to changes in poems, paintings, and buildings (Fatkin, 2012).

Modernism can also be described as the art of how human beings try to change the environment with an aim to make it better with the help of scientific knowledge and practical experiments.
