Summary
In an ever changing world, online learning has become a phenomenon in its own right. The growth of technology, as well as the advancement of the job market, has come to include working from home or from a remote job site. With this, online learning has become a frontier for the motivated learner. While still limited in some respects to the kinds of learning and the fields that will accept courses studied online, it is quickly become more of a norm than an anomaly. Today, even children can become proficient in computer skills before they even begin kindergarten, with the boom of Baby Einstein or other children’s computer and learning opportunities.
Benefits of Online Learning
The National Center for Education Statistics indicates that there is a rapid growth of online learning in the grade range of K-16.
One report found that over 1.6 million students were online, studying in the fall of 2002. From these results it is also noted that there was to be some anticipation of significant growth of online learning in the forthcoming years. They also noted that about two thirds of the very largest institutions have full online programs to offer. This is compared to smaller institutions that only offer about one sixth of their programs online.
This change in delivery of instruction can be called a technology that results in fundamental changes in how people view themselves and the world around them. Because of this shift, it is important to study the impact of assessment protocol and techniques. Teachers should review how effectively they center on reinforcing students learning.
