The key words I used for both articles are, “Academic Honesty”. The first article, “Honesty and Heroes”, written by Sara Staats, Julie M. Hupp, and Anna M. Hagley was published July 2008 for the Journal of Psychology. The early draft of this article was peer-reviewed by Paul Panek. This article is currently located in the EBSCO data base.

The article, “Honesty and Heroes”, elaborates on academic misconduct vs. heroism. Academic misconduct thrives from dishonesty of students such as cheating, which weakens the uprightness of a person and depreciates the degree earned. Degrees that are earned due to cheating or other unethical ways carry no moral value. The similarity between heroism and academic honesty is the integrity and characteristics of students who make it their purpose in life to succeed the old fashion way, which is hard work and dedication. According to Merriam-Webster Online dictionary, (n.d.), “Heroism is heroic conduct especially as exhibited in fulfilling a high purpose or attaining a noble end”. Students go to college to obtain a degree through hard work, dedication, and perseverance. These are the essential tools needed when applying academic honesty.

The article further states that academic misconduct thrives from people who have low-self esteem, lacks ethics, and a disregard toward guilt which allows them to cheat plus make a mockery of the school’s code of ethics.

The second article, “Academic Honesty and Online Courses” is written by Therese C. Grijalva, Clifford Nowell, and Joe Kerkvliet. The article was published in March 2006. There is no information provided to show this article has been peer reviewed. This article is currently located in the EBSCO data base.
