1. Discuss the advantages of a database management approach to the file processing approach? Give examples to illustrate your answer.

The database management approach is an approach to the storage and processing data in which independent files are considered into a common pool or database of records. The data is made available to different application programs and end users for the processing and data retrieval. The advantage is that it consolidates data records and objects into databases that can be accessed by many different types of applications. Another advantage is that it serves as a software interface between the application and databases, resulting in a decrease data dependence. A good example of this approach is ERAUs enrollment department should share a database with the library/rental agency to get our books for the classes quickly and efficiently.

2. Outline the benefits and limitations of the relational database model for business applications today?

Benefits of the relational model:

- The mostly used database structure.

- data stored in the form of simple tables.

- used by most microcomputer, minicomputer, and mainframe system.

- The DBMS has the ability to link data elements from various tables and provides information to the end user.

Limitations of the relational database model:

- Cannot process larger amounts of business transactions as efficiently and quickly.
