Inherited Diseases
SC235 Visualizing Human Biology
During the evaluation of my own health and health risks, I was extremely concerned with the findings and wanted to know more about the possibilities of inheriting these diseases. In order to get a better understanding of the matter I will start by researching what genetic diseases are.
A genetic disorder is a disease that is caused by abnormalities of an individual’s DNA. Now that science and technology has advanced so much, newborns can get a genetic screening at the time of birth. Genetic screenings is a health program that identifies treatable genetic disorders in newborn infants. Early intervention to treat these disorders can eliminate or reduce symptoms that might otherwise cause a lifetime of disability.
The following is a family history of illnesses or diseases.
Name | Disease | Life status | Notes |
Giuliana | none | Alive | In great health |
Mom | Hypertension, glaucoma | Alive | Taking medication |
Dad | Hypertension | Alive | Taking medication |
Grandma (mom’s side) | Severe hypertension, glaucoma, renal insufficiency | Died of a stroke at an old age
Grandpa (mom’s side) | Cardiac insufficiency | Died of heart attack at an old age
Grandma ( dad’s mom) | Cardiac insufficiency, Angina, glaucoma, hypotension (low blood pressure) | Died of heart attack at an old age
Grandpa | n/a | dead | Information not available |
Great aunt ( father’s side) | Breast cancer, lung cancer and bone cancer. | Died of cancer at old age
