What responsibilities do the manufacturers of alcoholic beverages have? What steps, if any, should they take to see that their produces are not abused? Did Four Loko fall down in this respect? What about Moonshot 69?

Business responsibility

Business ethic is a form of applied ethic and includes a set of moral principles and values, which examine and govern the behavior of organization with respect to what is wrong and what is right (Drucker, 1981). Good business ethic should become a significant part of every business especially for several corporations who have gained a bad reputation. For a popular beverage company, the ethics of production is a crucial business ethic area for them, which deal with the duties of a company to ensure that product and production process do not cause harm (Velasquez, 1983).

Moreover, in this area, business must have the sense of responsibility. Expect for economic and legal responsibilities, the ethical responsibility embody other activities even though they are not codified into law, each corporation have obligation to consider the expectation that reflect a concern of for what consumer want and respect and protect consumer’s right (Carroll, 1991).

Under this condition, manufacturers of alcoholic beverages is supposed to obey a few steps, include provide a written information about the product’s performance and make sure the equality in knowledge and capability between the manufacturer and the consumers (Hunter, 2006). Another step in the process of implementing ethical responsibility is the business should set product safety as a priority.

In the case, Four Loko’s product and Moonshot ‘69 fall down in this respect because their products combine the alcohol and caffeine together. It has been led to increased dehydration and a variety of injuries, illnesses and incidents of extremely bizarre behavior (Mayberger, 2011).
