1st month

New-borns have an average weight of about 5.5 to 10 pounds, the average baby weighs about 7.5 pounds. I weighed around 7.2 pounds. New-borns also lose weight in the first few days, this signifies loss of fluid and is normal. I lost about 0.3 pounds. New-borns also show various reflexes such as The Moro (reflex causes him to automatically arch his back, extend his arms and legs, and sometimes cry out when he senses a loud noise or a sudden movement), the Babinski reflex (your baby's big toe bends back and the other toes fan out when the sole of his foot is firmly stroked), the step reflex (he appears to take steps or dance when his feet touch a solid surface), and the tongue-thrust reflex (he pushes his tongue out when something is placed on it).

2nd month

The baby may gurgle, coo, grunt, and hum to express his feelings. A few babies also begin squealing and laughing. Imitating the way he speaks and speaking in his tone is good for the baby because babies are particularly attuned to this high-pitched, drawn-out way of communicating that can actually teach him about the structure and function of language. This is the month where a baby learns how to smile. So a baby starts to express happiness around this time by smiling. This is also the time when a baby starts to sleep longer at night and this is the time where they can be taught to fall asleep on their own. Babies also learn how to express themselves through facial expressions in or around the sixth week. This is prime time for learning. A baby's brain will grow about 5 centimetres during the first three months. There are also short periods of time when the baby is quiet and alert. Both the eyes are now able to follow things consistently and well, the baby can track a moving object much better.

3rd Month
