Green technology is a simply method of identifying and sealing or closing leaks in your house that allow hot or cold in. These methods are simple and have not been widely accepted over the years but the movement is gaining acceptance through education and example.

One subtopic to explain what sustainable energy also known as renewable energy that is derived from natural resources that include wind, rain, sunlight, geothermal technology, and any other method that can be replenished naturally is (Sustainable Buildings Industry Council, 2008). These techniques can be simple to complex and include solar photovoltaic panels to using sunlight in the correct way to allow enough light into the home.

Another subtopic from the mind map is caulking to gain as much from the energy collected as possible. Air leaks around windows and doors are the two main causes of higher energy costs and heat loss. This can also be cold air loss during hot summer days. The easiest way to prevent this is to apply caulk around window and door frames just as you would apply caulk around the tub in the bathroom (DIY Plumbing Repair, 2007).

One other subtopic is stone coated metal roofs. These materials are made from recycled steel and can be installed over top of the existing roof. This method eliminates the old shingles from ending up in the landfill. These products are pressed from steel and then coated in a stone type material. This construction has a life span of 50 years. Stone coated roofs are designed to meet all the safety standards of normal shingle roofs (Decra Roofing Systems, 2010).
