Adult Visual Learning Style

The three universally recognized major learning styles today are visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Of these three, each with its own challenges and benefits, the visual learning style is uniquely different from the others. Auditory learners rely predominantly on what is heard while kinesthetic or tactile learners base their learning from the hands on approach. Visual learners on the other hand, utilize mental and physical images to comprehend data, concepts, and information. While visual learners face many challenges in the physical and virtual classroom, the use of correctly targeted input and output strategies along with understanding of the challenges and benefits of being a visual learner will bring success in scholastic endeavors.

Upon review of the assessment, I found I am a combination of all three styles. Although I tested slightly higher in the visual category, the other two were just minimally less than my highest score. This assessment is quite accurate as throughout my years in school, I was always able to retain the greatest amount of knowledge from visual stimuli. Although I am a visual learner, I have also found in my experience that auditory learning comes in a close second. As I was not fully aware of my learning style before taking this assessment, I find the outcome very helpful in my continued academic and professional pursuits.

Of several available strategies for visual learners, mind mapping is the most technical. The term “mind mapping” comes from a British psychologist named Tony Buzan.
