Walt Disney Leadership Styles

In order to be successful, Walt Disney understood he had to be the best at everything he did. Walt built his company by looking around the world for talented individuals that he wanted working for him. Whether he paid for their education to improve skills, or lead others into becoming great leaders of the company. Walt had a certain charm that all his employees loved working with. Disney takes great initiative to ensure the values and ethics are a huge part of the success in the company’s culture. (Dixie, 2012)

After Walt Disney built his new studio, he went from being family oriented to becoming more controlling and making sure things were done correctly. Employees then grew afraid of Walt and they were no longer to be involved in decision making. Walt was different in front of his family as opposed to his employees and this not an example of a good leader. Improving communications with employees and managers is extremely important so everyone is on the same page regarding the future of any organization. (Dixie, 2012)

Since Walt Disney went from being a great leader and involved with his employees to a leader who wants it his way only can have a great impact on communication in the entire company. Not only were his employees starting to fear him but he was taking all the credit for everything that was being produced and built within the organization instead of recognizing staff members for their job well done. Employees tried to communicate concerns to Walt and he felt offended and often fired those individuals for being crude and rude in Walt’s company. (Walt Disney Leadership Style)

Communication within Disney’s organizations was non-existent since Walt himself made all the decisions and took credit for everything that went on in productions and parks constructions.
