The dangers of text messaging while driving

ENG 215

Strayer University

Introduction: While this new trend seems to be the new cool in thing, but text messaging while driving is everything but cool. Text messaging while driving has killed and it will kill again.

To me this new trend is even deadlier than that of the of the swine Flu epidemic. Today’s society has gone and created something new and more dangerous than that of college binge drinking, and that of drinking and driving. This new deadly gig is called text messaging while driving also known to some as texting. Though text messaging seems to be a simple and harmless procedure; however the outcome is all but that. This new fad does not segregate or discriminate against ones race or age; this new phenomenon does not care whom it effects or how it makes one become addictive, because there are no feelings nor emotions involved until it’s too late. I hate to sound so harsh, but this new fad is killing people and killing people at an alarming rate. Since text messaging posses such a threat, there are currently nine states that have officially banned text messaging while driving. The nine states that have currently banned text messaging while driving is Washington, Alaska, California, Illinois, Louisiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey and Oregon; with more to follow in the coming months. Even more, there are some auto insurance companies that are looking at implementing some sort of insurance rate adjustments or some type of penalty for those parents of teens eighteen years of age to try and combat their mindset about text messaging while behind the wheel of an automobile, because of the dangers of texting. As of today; because texting is so new to our society, the current data on books shows that text messaging while driving is committed by almost anyone who owns a cell phone.
