Teaching is one of the world’s most challenging occupations. Teachers hold a unique position in our society and can make the difference between the success and failure of a student. Ask yourself whether or not you have the characteristics of an effective teacher? If you feel that you have the characteristics, consider ways to improve on your methodology and teaching approach. There are many ways to become and effective teacher both in class and online, and the purpose and goal of this paper is to provide examples on how to do so.
An effective teacher makes good use of instructional time, takes time to prepare their lesson plans before class and inspires students to excel. Each and every student in the class has to feel comfortable and have a sense of belonging in order to demonstrate that success. Teachers are constantly making decisions about professionalism and ethics, teaching strategies, classroom management, and how to keep their students motivated. These decisions can have a major impact on student learning and how effective educators are in the classroom. Relative to becoming an effective teacher, standards are also a key aspect of teaching. Therefore, in order for the United States to gain better quality teachers, we have to raise the standards that govern the vocation. For example, classroom management, and having positive control in the classroom, is a key aspect of becoming an effective teacher. Teachers must have ability to handle every situation that comes their way. Moreover, adult learners may have more challenges than your typical student including personal and family related matters.
