Abstract
There is a growing trend on the need for adult learning in the workplace. There are many contributing factors on the need. The growth in today’s market, growth in technology, streamlined processes comes with the growth in technology and finally, a need for competitiveness with the younger generation are all basis needed for an adult learning program in the workplace. An organization with a matured, tenured workforce can embark on this type of learning and development program. In this paper, two articles will be evaluated on the recommendations by the authors on how to approach and deliver an effective training and development program conducive to adult learners.
Overview and Summary
In the article, “Workplace Trainings and Education: Effective Methods for Training Adults” by Stephanie Reyes states on the need of employers taking into account when to train and the importance of the delivery of such training. Stephanie Reyes feels this approach will enable adults to learn in a way they find most effective. In this particular article, the author suggested that adult learners can learn by being self-directed, as a Just-In-Time method. This approach allows employees to access information they need whenever there is need for the said information. “This allows for adult learners to exercise ownership over the learning process and immediately tie learning to practical application.” (Reyes, 2014)
The author of the Workplace Training and Education article feels a need for eLearning. The eLearning method is a way for adult learning to have full access and allows for self-direction in the workplace learning activities. This method can be a valuable asset to an organization as it allows less constraint on time and budget.
