Students should be able to choose their own subjects, as long as they have learned the basics required to do mostly anything related to society. It's the 21st century where kids have an iPod, laptop, a cell phone and most probably access to the internet. By the time they explore the world through the source of the internet and are mature enough to know what they're passionate about when opting for their subjects. It is believed that education broadens a pupil’s vision; it does not get you a job so you have a nice paycheck so students should not be forced to choose science and commerce only. Children should know what they want by the age of 10, so why force them to sleep on their desks for a whole hour in boring history or math’s class?

Most of the time, when students choose the subjects under the pressure of their parent’s demand, they are unable to succeed. According to a survey held in 15 city colleges of India it was known that 48% of the students felt pressurized due to their exams. “Students feel pressured and their identity becomes linked to an entrance test performance,” said Avkash Jadhav, professor in charge of the project. It was obvious that large number of the students under examination pressure were those who were not allowed to choose their subjects and were forced by their parents/guardians to go for science and commerce instead of arts.

Suicide is very common amongst students all over the world. According to UCS 40-50 students in a year talk seriously of suicide ideas. Most of the students who are forced to choose their subjects are unable to perform in their classes and examinations and they feel pressurized to a greater extent, they start to feel frightened, helpless, and become desperate to escape from their sufferings rather than actually wanting to die.
