1. What suggestions would you offer to Art to improve his operation?

I noticed Mr. Benton unsuccessful attempts at providing the same service in state offices and success the office were enjoying. Mr. Benton change office managers in all four out-of-state offices, with no success of turning things around. I would advise that he should have trained managers in his successful in state offices, so there would be no confusion on what he wanted from managers and how he wanted his operations run. The next suggestion, inside of traveling so much, I would advise him to use video conferencing. This way he can call a meeting at any time he wished to rectify any issues as it comes up. The managers complained that he visited too often, he should continue to do this until the out-of-state office were successful, it his company, not theirs. The managers complained that they should have the authority to make changes, yes he should, but only until Mr. Benton feels that they managers are doing their job correctly and the way he wants his company to run.

2. What management skills must Art master if he is to resolve his problems and continue to grow? Which of the categories from the textbook relate to these skills?

Management skill Mr. Benton should master if he is to resolve his problem and continue to grow would be to train and develop his managers into making the appropriate decision making, planning and organize. Mr. Benton should fine turn his own skills of leadership to be more effective, communicating to his managers more effectively and conflict resolutions.
