P1 – Write a report that describes the characteristics and sources of information that an organisation needs.

This report is on Information systems explaining the characteristics and sources of information that the organisation needs. An information system is a software or hardware system where all information of an organisation is presented. Most information systems are presented in a flow diagram to show how the organisation works and how information, data and facts are sent around an organisation. E.g. Questionnaire results from a Sale’s manager, sent up to senior management to help with decision making on whether to bring out a new product. An organisation is a main field of resources working as one aiming for a positive outcome.

The characteristics of information needs to be Valid and Reliable as the information needs to be accurate, which means the Researcher in a organisation will have properly checked the information and made sure its correct by processing the information a few times over to make sure it is up to date and made sure the information results are the same. The information also needs to be Timely and Fit for purpose, this means that the information that was provided was prepared and available and the time it needed to be used. Most organisation managers hold meetings to discuss and share the information with other managers of different sections in the organisation. Fit for purpose information where its checked to see if the information is set out in the most appropriate format, e.g. using some form of graph to present numeric information. It is also checked if the way it is presented is the best way for the audience to understand and if it answers the questions asked, and if it has the right level of detail....
