The realization that your business is your customer is the first step to having a successful business. Meaning that the level of customer service a company provides to their customers separates them from their competitors and puts them at the number one spot. Excellent service helps a company build relationships with their customer in order words a company can bring in as many new customers as possible, but unless they can get some of these customers to come back the business won't be profitable for long. Good customer service is all about bringing customers back, and about sending them away happy enough to pass positive feedback about your business along to others, who may then try the product or service you offer for themselves and in their turn become repeat customers. According to Patton (2009) “Training your staff on best practices in Customer service can help increase a loyal customer base and keep current customers faithful.”

In today’s competitive business world and economic crisis, it is essential for businesses and leaders to focus on delivering exceptional customer service and ensure that all employees are customer service oriented because if customers are not treated with respect and professionalism, they have the option to take their business elsewhere especially in the competitive market where other companies are willing to offer the same service for a lesser price in order to make sales. According to Patton (2009) “You have to empower them with the tools they need to produce excellent customer service. It's your job as manager or owner to train, coach, and educate them in how to use those tools."

It is very important for business leaders to have emotional intelligence as well as the employees in order to have a good customer service work environment and able to fully understand the need of the customers.
