The Construction of Railroad and Highway Influence Economics

Nowadays, with the booming of the economy, the advanced science and technology, it is undeniable that transportation plays an increasing essential role in this field. Then, some importance transportation issue has aroused wide public concern. The remarkable improvement of people's living standard makes the different kinds of vehicles more universal. It is commonly believed that the development of transportation leads the economy improvement. And as far as I am concerned, the construction of railroads and highways should be the most important factor of boost the economic development in the surrounding cities.

First of all, we should suppose about that what is transportation economics? “Transportation economics is an applied area of economics that is concerned with efficient use of society’s scare resources for movement of people and goods from an origin to a destination. Necessarily, the nation must provide the needed physical capital in the way of road, rail trackage, airports and runways, ports and other infrastructure in order to facilitate the movement of people and goods across space”. (McCarthy) Railroads and highways are the major media for linking various regions in our world together. It is the basic method for freight transport. Such as country A export timber by train to country B, and Country B import cloth by truck from country A. As a result, this kind of inter-regional trade is basically operated through railway and highway.

Secondly, the development of transportation conditions makes the surrounding cities and countries flourishing. As an international student study here, I come from China; I came up with an example of China which is really well-known. That is the irrigating the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. China says the 4.2 billion dollars railway will bring trade, jobs and tourists to one of its poorest regions, and help address economic imbalances between the country's east and west. It...
