Unit 2 Discussion Board

The medical profession is a good example of how every decision could cost a life or create a serious disability to a client or patient. Health care professionals pay large liability insurance premiums to cover the costs of any potential mistake that is made by them, as do the agencies and hospitals who hire them; the financial penalty should not be the only penalty the professional should pay for poor medical care or malpractice. I believe that any professional degree, or certified profession, such as the medical profession, should be held to a higher standard of legal accountability. This higher standard keeps medical and other professionals focused on their positions by making them aware that there is a price, or penalty, to pay for any mistakes they may make.

I am an administrative manager of a home health care agency. The advantage of my position is limited to my position and the decisions I make. The one disadvantage is my professional reputation rests on the professional ability of those who work for me.

Lawyers should be held to a higher standard of legal responsibility because their advice could cause a person to lose his, or her freedom, the advice and actions of a lawyer could cost a person their life savings, and property. Law enforcement professionals should also be held higher standard of legal accountability because they have the power of life or death in a given situation. I believe any profession that deals with people’s lives and welfare should be held to a higher standard of legal accountability.

I really can’t think of any professional who should not be held to a higher standard of accountability, the word “professional” itself indicates that the higher standard of legal accountability exist.
