Chapter 1 Review Questions

1. What is information systems and design?

Information systems and design is a process where analyst develop and maintain information systems to perform basic functions. Its main goal is to improve organizational systems.

2. What is systems thinking? How is it useful for thinking about computer-based information systems?

Systems thinking is an analytical skill where you have the ability to see organizations and information systems as systems. It is useful for thinking about computer-based information systems because it provides you with summary on the important relationships among information systems and how it will help solve the user’s problems.

4. In what way are organizations systems?

Organizations are systems because every working in the organization has a different job that all comes together to serve on main purpose. The jobs are broken down into categories and how well each job is performed have effect on how others will work and how effective the organization will be.

5. List and explain the different phase in the system development life cycle.

* Phase1 Planning and Selection: Is when someone classifies the need for a new or better system. Then they examine the system and determine the proposed system scope.

* Phase2 Systems Analysis: Is where the old system is examined, then a different replacement system is planned. This phase also have several sub phases.

* Phase3 System Design: Is where the system that was chosen from development in systems analysis is first defined individually of any computer platform, then converted into technology-specific details where all programming and system construction can be accomplished.

* Phase4 Systems Implementation and Operation: This is the last phase where the information system is codes, tested, and installed in the organization where the information system is thoroughly...
