Abstract

The issue of Electrolytes imbalances has greatly been addressed and discussed about by the greatest majority of individuals. In the ordinary, the mostly argued upon and undoubtedly issues which have been greatly discussed on include the hyper and hypo conditions. These have been very important issues had have been greatly discussed on by the greatest number of health professionals. This paper shall streamline on the issue of Electrolytes imbalances. The paper will also give a brief summary of the signs and symptoms of hyper and hypo conditions, with case scenarios revealing their signs and symptoms, diagnosis and treatment.

Introduction

Electrolytes are defined as any substance that contains free ions which in turn make the substance electrically conductive. They form components of the human body and they are vital in the normal functioning of body systems. Electrolytes are viewed to be smallest chemical elements that allow body to function effectively and the common examples in the body systems include sodium, potassium, calcium, chloride, phosphorous and bicarbonate. Many of the electrolytes mentioned above are involved in numerous works that entail contracting of muscles, generating electricity, others move water and other body fluids within the body, and other participates in innumerable other activities. The concentration and level of electrolytes in the body systems is regulated by an assortment of hormones, majority of which are produced in the kidney and adrenal glands. Hormones from these organs keep electrolytes to a certain balance that maintains body functions (Hammond, 2000).
